How do I know if my personal information is potentially impacted by the recent cyber security hack at the credit reporting agency Equifax? This should be a concern for everyone reading this. The quickest way to see if your information is compromised is to go to: https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/potential-impact/
You will be asked for your last name and the last 6 digits of your Social Security Number.
If you were not impacted you can feel good. However if your personal information is at risk you should call Equifax at 866-447-7559, every day (including weekends) from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Eastern time.
The following is an update regarding the massive breach of consumer’s personal information at the credit monitoring company Equifax.
From the Associated Press:
“Three Equifax executives sold a combined $1.8 million in stock to insulate themselves from news that the credit monitoring company had been hacked.
The cyberattack between mid-May and July was disclosed by Equifax on Thursday. The attack exposed the Social Security numbers and other sensitive information of about 143 million Americans.
The stock sales were executed on Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 by Chief Financial Officer John Gamble and two other executives, Rodolfo Ploder and Joseph Loughran. Bloomberg News first reported the divestitures.
The sales insulated the executives from the downturn in Equifax’s stock. The stock dropped 13 percent in extended trading after the announcement of the breach.
Credit monitoring company Equifax says a breach exposed social security numbers and other data from about 143 million Americans.
The Atlanta-based company said Thursday that “criminals” exploited a U.S. website application to access files between mid-May and July of this year.
It said consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some cases, driver’s license numbers were exposed. Credit card numbers for about 209,000 U.S. consumers were also accessed.
The company said hackers also accessed some “limited personal information” from British and Canadian residents.
Equifax said it doesn’t believe that any consumers from other countries were affected.”
Three years ago a 2014 pilot study found disturbingly high levels of the herbicide RoundUp ® (Glyphosate) in the breast milk of American mothers. Three out of ten women tested back then tested positive for glyphosate contamination. The results made it clear that glyphosate levels actually built up in women’s bodies over a period of time. The levels of the herbicide glyphosate was around 1,000 times higher than that allowed in European drinking water to be considered safe.
ATTENTION ” MEN “
The Organic Consumers Association reported that Glyphosate was found in urine of 93 percent of Americans tested. This 2015 public testing project carried out by a laboratory at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). The average level of Glyphosate detected was 3.096 parts per billion (PPB). Children had the highest levels with an average of 3.586 PPB. The regions with the highest levels of Glyphosate in urine were from the West and the Midwest with an average of 3.053 PPB and 3.050 PPB respectively. Also it is important to note that Glyphosate residues were not observed in any tap water samples tested. Equally disturbing is that Glyphosate levels were just as high in city dwellers as they were in agricultural communities where the Glyphosate was being sprayed on crops.
Men who have used RoundUp ® (Glyphosate) in the backyard know that it kills everything that it is sprayed on. It definitely is not something you want to spray on anything you plan on eating. Right on the container there are warnings to call a poison control center immediately and seek medical attention if swallowed.
For thirty-five years Monsanto the maker of RoundUp ® (Glyphosate) has claimed that: “If ingested, glyphosate is excreted rapidly, does not accumulate in body fat or tissues, and does not undergo metabolism in humans. Rather, it is excreted unchanged in the urine.” But the extremely high levels found in breast milk throw this “alternative fact” out the front door.
Monsanto holds the patents to many genetic modified crops being planted across the United States and Canada. A good example is the soybean. This GMO soybean has 93 percent of the market in North America. So if the entire circle represents all SOY grown in the USA and Canada. Then if what you eat contains Soy or is made from Soy then odds are that you have been consuming Roundup.
Soybeans are not the only GMO (genetically modified) crop in North America. Potatoes, tomatoes, corn and rice are also big time GMO. So is rapeseed (canola oil).
What we need to remember soy was not a part of the human diet until 1979 when the first soy milk was introduced into the grocery store. Prior to this it was a product that was not considered fit for human consumption. Henry Ford used it as a lubricant in his automobile industry.
Soybeans have another unique quality in that they are a very high source of plant based estrogen. Yes estrogen the female hormone. This is also a concern for men as it does not help to maintain a stable testosterone level. Published studies have shown that the consumption does have an undesirable effect on testosterone levels. Testosterone, an essential male hormone, helps men to retain and build a more muscular physique. In addition it helps a man’s libido or sex drive.
Many studies confirm that cancer has skyrocketed in the past fifteen years. “Research has been done in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand investigating possible links between glyphosate, Roundup’s active ingredient, and cancer. A large number of studies have focused on glyphosate’s possible association with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.” The research shows that Roundup is linked to a host of cancers including both B cell lymphoma, and to brain cancer. The gold standard for scientific proof is a randomized controlled trial, which would be unethical as it would definitively measure exposure and related cancers.
The government isn’t protecting us. Despite studies linking exposure to the chemical with diseases including cancer. In 2013 the EPA actually approved the amount of allowable glyphosate in oilseed crops such as flax, soybeans and canola to be increased from 20 parts per million (ppm) to 40 ppm, which is over 100,000 times the amount needed to induce breast cancer cells. Additionally, the EPA has increased the limits on allowable glyphosate in food crops from 200 ppm to 6,000 ppm.
In looking into the background of Monsanto ones learns some disturbing ties to the health care industry. At one point the Pharmacia Corporation owned Monsanto in 1999. Pharmacia is the same corporation that took over the famous Upjohn Pharmaceutical company. If fact Monsanto had it’s own medical research division that came up with that great drug Celebrex which the FDA warned of increased risks of cardiovascular-related side effects, such as heart attack and stroke. Pharmacia quickly sold off Monsanto and the new Monsanto became a company in 2000. Monsanto then accepted an offer of $66 Billion Dollars from the medical giant Bayer in 2016. This deal is still pending regulatory approval. Both companies have been meeting with President Donald Trump and now spokesman for the President claims that Monsanto and Bayer promised to keep all of Monsanto’s 10, 000 US workers if approved. Spokesman for Bayer has not confirmed and did admit the reduction of administrative positions here in the US.
One company makes you sick and the other manufactures and profits from products for your failing health. Ironically a creepy partnership that should concern everyone.
This Monsanto deal is definitely not a GOP Republican thing. The following image shows the Democratic ties to Monsanto. And let’s not forget Mrs. Clinton was a Monsanto Attorney.
Also we can see a very bipartisan mixture of Senators who voted against the American consumer and for Monsanto.
My first exposure to this was Memorial Day weekend 2014. I was sitting there and reading about American women finding RoundUp ® (Glyphosate) in there breast milk. As I read further the article discussed men and urine samples that also had disturbing detectable levels of RoundUp ® (Glyphosate). I started to wonder if I too might be eliminating RoundUp ® (Glyphosate). Despite choosing organic and non-gmo produce I wondered if I was actually being sold actual organic and non-gmo products. Well I ordered the test kit via the internet (cost $140) back then. When it arrived I sent it off to a lab in St. Louis, MO. Luckily my results came back negative. Since then I have been following this topic as I seriously was disturbed that developing infants were being forced to consume contaminated breast milk. How could any infant develop a healthy brain being exposed to RoundUp ® (Glyphosate)? The answer – they can’t.
In 2015 urine and water testing was organized by The Detox Project and commissioned by the Organic Consumers Association. The results of that test reported above. The Organic Consumers Association stated that: “These test results highlight the massive failure of U.S. regulatory agencies, including the EPA, USDA and FDA, to protect us even as they continue to perpetuate the myth that low-level exposure to glyphosate is harmless. We must bring down this poison-for-profit model and build in its place a food and farming system that regenerates and heals, before it’s too late.”
We live in the age of information and most people have internet today. Understanding social media is becoming more important as a means to stay in touch. Using FaceBook, Twitter (Tweet), Instagram and other social media networks can be a good thing or bad.
As we get older we tend to not get out as much. Many older individuals give up driving all together. This generally means seeing less of both friends and families. Social media can help people feel connected to the world that has been reduced by the aging process.
Social media can be a true blessing with respect to reaching out to family and friends and seeing your friends and families latest pictures. It has also become a common way for families to invite family and friends to celebrations or family gatherings. But many fail to realize that it is important to have a younger family member or friend set up your privacy settings. It is important that when you interact with your friends and family that what you share is not being shared with the world. In addition you should have only your friends and family and not an acquaintance (someone you know little about) in your circle.
You should also be careful when you share something to your social media account. Sometimes it can be embarrassing, because we think we are sharing something harmless and yet, when it is shared and it has links to sites with other websites, images, or political statements in complete opposition to your views on the world. Sometimes it is better to save an image and then upload it to share it. This way links to other sites or images are disabled. These other sites may include pornography. When you share any image you should identify the author or owner in the description. This is especially true if you are sharing beautiful pictures that you yourself did not create. If the photograph was taken by Joe’s Photography then you should give credit to Joe’s Photography.
Any images used in this article with respect to social media companies are the trademarks of their respective owners. The purpose of using the images is to identify companies which are classified as social media companies which may or may not be all inclusive.
Enjoy social media. Educate yourself and you should always use the help or support features of these sites so that your experience on them is safe and enjoyable. If you do not know how a site works look for a “Help Center” or “Support Center”.
Your privacy is at stake. It is about to be sold and you will not be able to do anything about it unless you tell Congress and Senate “No”. Protect Net Neutrality at all costs.
Technology has changed our world. Some of it good and some of it bad. It has made it easier for us to communicate and get information and even shop and get the best deal. But it has also provided a new frontier for crime and a way for some to commit crime and hurt others. Laws were necessary to protect citizens when these new technologies created vulnerabilities that had never existed before. One of them “Net Neutrality”. This prohibited your internet provider from selling your personal and private information. This included what information you looked up and read about.
If a person was on a medication and didn’t feel right they might search for information about side effects. It is likely that they would put in the name of that medication. This information could be sold. If your physician gave this information to someone it would be a violation of the HIPAA (which is the law that protects patient confidentiality and health records). Yet now this information will be freely sold for profit. I often wonder if insurance companies would buy this information if they were someday, once again, allowed to deny insurance coverage to those people with a pre-existing diagnoses.
I am very disturbed by all of this as I personally value my privacy as should each and every one of us. I still have a landline and, because I live in a large city, pay monthly to have an unlisted phone number for security reasons. Today we have mobile phones with internet or smart phones, we have tablets that connect to the internet, and many of us have a computer or laptop. Everyone of these devices is presently protected by Net Neutrality. I do not care if you are a conservative or a liberal you need to speak out and protect yourself.
Today, April 15, 2017, I witnessed (via internet video) a Republican GOP representative Brad Bainum from Wisconsin tell a room full of older constituents to stop using the internet if they do not like his vote to sell their privacy in support of President Trump’s getting rid of Net Neutrality Protections. Doing this will put everyone’s private information at the door of not just advertisers but also at the door of more scammers and criminals that will take advantage of them. I do not care who you voted for. However your privacy is your privacy and you are entitled to it. If you break the law; that is completely different. This is not what we are talking about. Every person across this nation needs to speak up and defend their right to privacy and net (internet) neutrality. Do not let your private information be sold and then resold again and again to whomever. Contact your elected officials. The GOP controls the Senate and Congress and it is these individuals who will be handing your privacy away. Call or email them today.
Protect yourself and protect the future for others. This technology needs these controls called Net Neutrality. Do not let anyone profit and sell your privacy.
Are there alternatives to toxic bug sprays? Should you be applying those chemicals to your skin? Essential Oils have been used to repel bugs safely for decades. Commercially produced insect repellents should be used with caution on young children and the aging. These are the essential oils to repel bugs naturally for the summer. These essential oils have a history of keeping the bugs away when applied to the skin.
Oil of lemon Eucalyptus – For protection against mosquitos, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) equally recommends oil of lemon eucalyptus, to synthetic preparations containing DEET, and IR3535 for use on the skin. The CDC found oil of lemon eucalyptus to be more effective than other plant-based treatments. Studies show that products containing 40% oil of lemon eucalyptus was just as effective as products containing high concentrations of DEET. Based upon testing oil of lemon eucalyptus should be re-applied every 4 hours.
Today some sellers have tried to capitalize on technology using ultrasound (inaudible high frequency sounds). Buyer beware these electronic devices have been shown to be ineffective based on studies done by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and many universities.
Regular extensive DEET exposure has been associated with insomnia, mood disturbances and impaired cognitive function.
Lavender – it is sweet smelling and it despite that bugs do not like it. Studies suggest that it is only effective when used with other essential oils for mosquitoes, flies and other insects.
PennyRoyal – be careful with this one. It is a member of the mint family. It is toxic to both mosquitoes and fleas. Unfortunately it is EXTREMELY TOXIC to dogs. This ingredient should be avoided even in shampoos and conditioners with dogs. Dogs that lick on their dry fur after exposure to this oil can die. This has been verified after death by post-mortem chemical examination. Do Not Use PennyRoyal On or Near Your Dog.
Eucalyptus – In the Journal of Medical Entomology (study of insects), Eucalyptus extract can reduce tick bites and infections. Studies do show that it works to repel flies and mosquitoes. There are unverified reports that it repels dust mites.
Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca) – It has been applied to the skin for both lice and scabies. It is considered antiseptic for insect bites. Never take or use orally or ingest. Note that in small concentrations (.1% to 1%), tea tree oil is tolerated and safe for cats and dogs. Improper dilutions of this highly concentrated oil can be harmful to pets. Tea Tree Oils are rapidly absorbed into the body whether taken orally or on the skin. This means topical application of concentrated oil can result in the same toxicity as accidental oral ingestion. Tea tree oil repels ticks and fleas it does not kill them. Use caution when using Tea Tree Oil.
Lemongrass – pleasant citrus scented oil. Most literature discusses its use to repel mosquitoes. When used with Geranium oil it is effective in repelling ticks.
It should be noted that naturally effective bug repellants are often a combination of oils.
Additional safety should be confirmed with appropriate health professionals (providers) before use. Consumers should thoroughly read all associated warnings and safety information with respect to the proper use of any product.
Spring will soon be arriving across all of North America. The wet winter, in many parts of the country, may make Mosquitoes a real problem. Many communities in the southern United States have noticed what appear to be giant Mosquitoes.
Don’t panic these giants are not Mosquitoes. These giants are called Crane Flies. Despite rumors that these larger flies are predators of mosquitoes, they are not. They are harmless. They do not feed on blood and none of them attack people.
Sadly the internet contains false reports of adult crane flies biting or stinging, they do neither. Adult crane flies eat very little, if at all report entomologists (bug specialists). They may feed on nectar. Their primary focus is on mating when they are in this short stage of their life. They can be gently scooped up and returned outdoors.
The real enemy is the Mosquito. Notice that the Mosquito has a long tube-like mouthpart (proboscis). This is what they use to pierce the skin to consume blood.
Mosquitoes can transmit extremely harmful infections. These can include malaria, yellow fever, West Nile virus, dengue fever, filariasis, Zika virus and other arboviruses, rendering it the deadliest animal family in the world.
The best defense against the mosquito is making sure that we do not provide an optimal place for them to live and reproduce.
Mosquitoes need standing water to lay their eggs. Look around where you live. Almost anything can hold water: Buckets, plant saucers, old tires, a fountain, even a swimming pool. Dump and drain the water once a week or throw away the containers. If you have a pool make sure that the water is treated and not stagnant and stinking.
Get and use insect repellent. Blood is food for female mosquitoes. They need your blood to produce eggs. Look for these active ingredients to keep mosquitoes from biting you: DEET, Picaridin, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, IR3535.
Share what you know about controlling mosquitoes with family and friends.
A clean yard, free from containers that can hold water (including plant saucers), is a mosquito-free yard.
Controlling mosquitoes is simple — just get rid of any standing water.
As we age, more and more men are facing low T or low testosterone levels. Typically the symptoms of low testosterone are decreased libido or sex drive, fatigue, decreased muscle, and increased fat. Erectile dysfunction and even depression have become common in men with low testosterone.
Most physicians feel that they are seeing an increase in low testosterone in the male population. However many physicians feel that men are speaking up and seeking help from physicians more than they use to. I’m not convinced that this is the only reason more men are experiencing low testosterone and being diagnosed with low testosterone.
When we look what has changed in the North American diet over that last 60 years. Some suspects that could play a role are foods that are high in estrogen. Obviously men should avoid or strictly limit consumption of these ingredients. Two plant based forms of estrogen are soybeans and flax seed. These two plants in todays diet are very high in estrogen.
In 1944 soy entered the human food chain as soy milk, ice cream and nondairy whipped topping. Prior to that, soybeans and by-products were considered unfit for human consumption. One of the best graphs showing soybeans rapid rise in the diets of North Americans is here:
It appears that 1969 is when soy consumption really started to increase in our diets. Ironically the number of physicians specializing in infertility also has increased like this graph. Population control, makes you wonder if their is a direct correlation. The number one producer of soybean seed for farmers is Monsanto (now Bayer) and this aggressive grab to control food supply for profits is obvious. Even worse in 1994 the first genetically modified (GMO) soybean was created and unleashed on the general public. Since 1994 to present 92 to 94% of all soybeans grown in North America are GMO and the name of that seed is “Round-Up Ready Soybeans”, trademark Monsanto. Men should limit or remove unwanted estrogens from their diets.
The only true way to know if you have low testosterone is to go see a physician. A simple blood test will measure Total Testosterone (normal being 241 to 827 NG/DL), Free Testosterone (direct) (normal being 4.25 to 30.37 PG/ML), and Free % Testosterone (normal calculation 0.10 to 0.27 %).
Most physicians feel that OTC or dietary supplements that claim to boost testosterone are not effective. They are generally expensive. If you choose prescription or dietary supplements consult your physician. Let him be your guide with respect to low testosterone. The best thing that you can do is change your diet. Familiarize yourself with the way soy is disguised on food labels.
In the last decade the National Institutes of Health has devoted over $2 billion to studying complementary and alternative medicine. This has included several major clinical trials on herbs, vitamins, and supplements. When supplement research results report harm, the published studies appear to be more influential to consumers and their physicians than results reporting lack of efficacy. When you take any supplement it should be based on both safety and whether or not it works (efficacy).
This is especially true when we look at Vitamin E. Vitamin E is typically purchased and consumed as a preventative supplement. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble anti-oxidant that was thought to reduce oxidative stress linked to cancer and heart disease. It was also the most common supplement recommended by physicians. In 2005 the results were published from a major vitamin E trial that showed participants who took >800 IU of Vitamin E per day had higher mortality (death) rates. Later in 2005 data from two additional studies reported little or no effect of vitamin E in preventing cancer and cardiovascular disease. Sales of vitamin E decreased by 33 % the following year. Investigators feel that when supplement research results report harm, the results influence consumers and their physicians more so than results reporting a lack of benefits or efficacy.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin
These supplements gained popularity for the symptoms of osteoarthritis. This supplement is not purchased as a preventative but rather to address acute and chronic symptoms associated with stiffness and joint pain common to arthritis. In 2006 the results were published from two federally funded studies. In these studies there were no serious adverse events. However the results showed that glucosamine alone and in combination with chondroitin did not improve the symptoms of osteoarthritis more than a placebo. In a secondary analysis the glucosamine/chondroitin combination was more beneficial than the placebo in a subgroup of participants with moderate-to-severe osteoarthritis symptoms. No physical harm has been associated with glucosamine and chondroitin. Consumer use of these supplements has not decreased despite the reported decrease in actual benefits. Consumers might be better to consider supplements containing curcumin (pharmaceutical Turmeric) for inflammation and the symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis pain.
The berries or fruit from saw palmetto is used to treat urinary symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or an enlarged prostate. This supplement is purchased for the chronic symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate. In 2006 the results of a large study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine which showed that while saw palmetto was well tolerated, it was no better than placebo in improving the symptoms of BPH or an enlarged prostate in the study participants. Uniquely saw palmetto does contain beta-sitosterol which does show statistically significant benefits in clinical studies in improving the symptoms of an enlarged prostate. The big difference is that it would take about 200 capsules of saw palmetto to equal one capsule with 300 mg of beta-sitosterol. The efficacy of beta-sitosterol when studied with enlarged prostate symptoms has been published in the British Journal of Urology, the Lancet, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Despite the study results of saw palmetto annual sales of saw palmetto in the US exceed $135 million annually. Again consumers are better off choosing a natural prostate supplement that uses the ingredient beta-sitosterol.

There are many ways that germs can be spread. One of the most common ways is through touch. Yes your hands. Today we have a lot more to worry about than just the handle at the gas station pump. We have touch screens everywhere. At the local grocery store or for that matter at every check out facility.
A recent study was published. The study was based on observations of 3,749 people in public restrooms, and appeared in the Journal of Environmental Health. The study was conducted by professionally trained college students in data collection and had them observe hand washing in restrooms in bars, restaurants and other public establishments.
Alarmingly 15 percent of men didn’t wash their hands at all, compared with 7 percent of women. When they did wash their hands, only 50 percent of men used soap, compared with 78 percent of women. People were less likely to wash their hands if the sink was dirty. Hand washing was more prevalent earlier in the day. The researcher said that this suggests that people who were out at night for a meal or drinks were in a more relaxed mode and hand washing became less important. People were more likely to wash their hands if a sign encouraging them to do so was present.
You cannot make other people wash there hands but you can protect yourself and family.
When you are out in public and use ATM or any touch screen wash your hands after use. I actually carry individually packaged hand wipes and yes I wipe the buttons and pen before I use them. When I get into my vehicle I use a wipe to clean my hands and the steering wheel. I clean my steering wheel regularly because there is a big chance that I have pumped gas, or opened a door, used a public touch pad, etc. There is a very good chance that the person before me that used any of these did not wash their hands. Also very few businesses and banks clean the touch pads or pens between every customer. This is a simple wake up call — wash your hands and remember 22% of the general population is not washing their hands. A few simple precautions and these can help:

Everyone of us has been on an important call with a friend or relative and through call waiting our phone tells us we have another call with continuous beeping. Or we have answered our phone only to be greeted with ” Hello this is Rachael” or “Vote for Bozo – he’s the Best”. This problem is getting worse across the entire United States. Before it was limited to landlines but now it has jumped the fence and now cell phones are being invaded.
The Dallas Morning News reported that the residents of Dallas, Texas received 48 million robocalls in December 2015 (Statistics from the YouMail Robocall Index). Three months later the residents of Dallas received 91 million robocalls for the month of March 2016. It really doesn’t matter where you live. If you are reading this then you too have experienced these calls.
What can you do? Well unfortunately the “Do Not Call Registry” is not working. The CEO of AT&T reports that you should contact the Public Utilities Commission if your State has it’s own “Do Not Call Registry”. Otherwise contact the FCC and the Federal Trade Commission if you are on the Do Not Call Registry. If you are not registered then do a search on the internet and sign up. If we build up the number of complaints it will force Congress to act on our behalf.
It is most important that you contact your representative in Congress to support a new bill called — ROBOCOP — which stands for “The Repeated Objectionable Bothering of Consumers on Phones act“. This bill was introduced by Rep. Jackie Speier, D.-Cali.. The bill requires companies like AT&T to offer consumers free optional robocall-blocking technology.
Representative Speier claims that the technology to block robocalls exists. But it is not widely available or easy to use. This bill would also block politicians’ calls, and require phone companies to stop caller ID spoofing. Rep. Speier stated that people deserve peace in their own homes. This is made impossible when their phones are ringing all day long.
Tell your U.S. senators and members of Congress that you demand passage of Speier’s ROBOCOP bill. AT&T’s CEO claimed that the telecommunication companies must get permission from the Federal Communications Commission. The ROBOCOP bill will accomplish this.
Avoid calls from unknown numbers. If you do pick up, hang up. Don’t talk. Don’t press buttons. Do not select the option to be removed from being called.
